Why the website?
It all started when I was packing my kids lunches and I was frustrated that:
- Many lunch bags are too small if you want to go litterless
- I never had the right containers for everything, for example yogurt or cheese and crackers...
- All plastic containers weren't safe BPA free
- I wish I had an alternative to packing in plastic
- Some bottles and containers leaked
| I started researching what other products there were besides the ones you see in the usual chain stores. I found some great stuff and I thought wouldn't it be nice for other people to get these items all at one web store. The research I've done answers my 5 dilemmas, so at this web store you will find:
|
 |
- Large lead and PVC free lunch bags that are not only nice looking but functional for kids and adults
- A variety of different size containers that are unique looking and functioning
- All BPA free plastic containers and bottles
- Some unique stainless steel containers and bottles
- Bottles and containers don't leak
Also a stainless steel spork (fork on one side, spoon on the other), cloth t-shirt napkins and cold packs to make your lunch completely litterless. Another option I have is an all in one lunch kit called Goodbyn - little ones love to decorate with the stickers provided.
Each bag, container and bottle will come with a sticker that you can write your name on.

Why litterless?
The average person's lunch in Canada generates about 30 kilograms of waste each year, which as we know inevitably ends up in landfills and eventually our oceans. Students are our leaders of tomorrow - by improving their environmental consciousness and helping them change their habits through education and leading by example, waste production will decrease.
If we all try to have litterless lunches then imagine how much less garbage will be produced. Not to mention how much money we will save.

Why BPA free?
We try to keep our family and ourselves safe by protecting our health and environment. Recently, disturbing news has surfaced about plastics. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a toxic chemical additive found in many plastic containers that can leach into our food and beverages. Scientists believe it is harmful to humans, especially children. Studies show that BPA can cause developmental effects on children, negatively impacting allergies, hormones and metabolism.
What is 18/8 stainless steel?
It is stainless steel that has 18% chromium and 8% nickel, the rest is made up of iron. It does not rust or corrode and does not leach any chemicals into its contents. Therefore, 18/8 stainless steel is the safest type of stainless steel for food and drink storage. As opposed to 18/0 which is magnetic and more susceptible to corrosion. Stainless steel and glass are the safest alternatives, as well as BPA free plastic containers.

The Challenge:
My Litterless Lunches challenges schools and places of work to participate in encouraging waste free lunches. This means no pre-packaged foods, snacks or drinks. Try buying larger quantities of foods and drinks such as cookies, treats, yogurt, veggies, pudding, juice, water and put them in your own containers. You'll not only save money, but you'll help save the environment, one litterless lunch at a time.
